Cut the top and bottom parts of the can, leaving just the center. Cut a vertical line through the center to leave one long piece of aluminum.
Mark a strip of about 1″- 1.25″. Draw a horizontal line a quarter on the way from the top, and a vertical line down the middle using a Sharpie. Draw an M below the horizontal line with a quarter margin from each side. The middle of the M should be centered along the vertical line.
Cut out the inner area of the M and fold the right and left sides up and over the horizontal line.
Smooth the shim over a pen or some round object roughly the same diameter as the bar on the lock.
Pick the Lock – 2 Methods
Method 1
Note which side of the bar is the one that locks.
Wrap the shim around the bar of the lock with the middle of the M (or the U) facing downwards and the handle of the shim facing outwards.
Push the shim all the way down inside the space between the bar and the lock, then pull the lock bar up. Note: This may take a bit of getting used to and you may damage some shims along the way.
Method 2
Wrap the shim around the bar of the lock with the middle of the M (or the U) facing downwards and the handle of the shim facing inwards.
Push the shim all the way down inside the space between the bar and the lock, then rotate the shim slowly inside the space, then pull the lock bar up.
